I want to talk to you about metabolism. You may have heard from your friends or family members that they want to elevate their metabolism to burn more calories and lose weight. Most people really do not understand what metabolism is and how it burns calories.
You see metabolism is the breaking down of the food you consume into glucose and glycogen. This is what we want to think about when we talk about metabolism.
Now let us discuss how you can elevate your metabolism. The best way is through exercising on a regular basis because exercising consumes energy or calories. What happens when you exercise is your body requires more and more energy or calories. So what is happening inside your body is that the food you consume is broken down into glucose and glycogen and then into ATP (or, Adenosine triphosphate). This ATP is a valuable source of energy for use by your body. This high-energy phosphate molecule is the main source of usable energy for the activities of the your cells and is the fuel responsible for muscle contraction.
So the more and more you exercise the more your body breaks down food in your body into glucose and glycogen and then into ATP. This is metabolism. Consumed food is being metabolized into energy which your body uses when you exercise. So when you exercise more you need more energy and when you exercise less you uses less energy. So when you exercise less your metabolism of food slows down and you caloric consumption is less and that the biggest reason why you do not lose weight.
